Coffee Taste Preferences

Unfortunately, when you ask people about coffee, the conversation tends to go something like, “Do you like coffee? Yes (or no).” But, the truth of the matter is that coffee doesn’t all taste the same. It’s a little like talking about wine. There’s not just wine. There are different types of wine from different countries, etc. Coffee is the same, in that there are many different types of coffee that can be prepared in many different ways. There are different origins (countries), different varieties, different processing methods, and they can all be roasted to different degrees. All of these factors can result in very different tasting cup of coffee.

All of this can be a bit confusing if you’re not really into learning about coffee, and simply want to drink really good coffee. Here’s the thing, though. If you drink a cup of coffee, and you like it, then you like it! It’s completely up to you. If the person next to you drinks the same coffee and doesn’t like it, then guess what? They don’t like it! But, to know what you really like, you just need to try a bunch of different coffees. The more you try, the more you discover what you like and don’t like about coffee. Just because you don’t like a particular coffee doesn’t mean you don’t like coffee. You just don’t like that one!

My advice: Try as many different coffees as you can. It’s fun to explore! I would definitely recommend specialty coffee, since it’s the best overall coffee quality, but that doesn’t mean you’ll like everything you try. Just have fun with it! If you find something you like, keep it on hand, but keep exploring.

Here’s to exploring coffee!
